Kaloleni – along with others like Makongeni, Mbotela, and Dandora – is one of the settlements in Nairobi where Muungano wa Wanavijiji, Kenyan alliance of slum dwellers, is conducting rapid-response household data collection (enumerations) in the face of ongoing evictions across the city. Muungano knows there is another way. Successful alternatives to forced evictions have been demonstrated across the SDI. network. Local and national government must join hands with Muungano and Kenyan civil society to put an end to these evictions. We need negotiated alternatives that keep the dignity, homes, and livelihoods of Nairobi’s 2 million slum residents.
