Bali ReGreen is an environmental outreach program founded and managed by the BaliSpirit Festival Team. In partnership with the Environmental Bamboo Foundation, Bali ReGreen provides resources and volunteers support for the planting of bamboo trees to stimulate reforestation in Bali. The three-fold mission of this program integrates a) environmental protection, b) economic recovery, and c) cultural and artistic conservation using one of Southeast Asia's most ubiquitous and valuable resources: Bamboo.
In April 2013, Bali ReGreen launched its second community-based reforestation project in the region of Desa Songan B, Kintamani. In cooperation with more the 200 community members, 5 hectares of land were planted with bamboo to protect the steep mountaintop slopes from erosion and stimulate ecological recovery. Over time, the more than 30% of unproductive land in the region will provide local farmers with fertile soil for diverse agriculture—the region's primary livelihood—as well as fast-growing bamboo, which can be harvested for building construction, handicrafts, and a number of cultural and ritual needs.
